Tips & drills

A little more know-how for better play.

Useful starting points for taking care of your gear and getting more from the time you have on court. No jargon required.

Good gear care is a quiet advantage.

01 / Stringing

Don’t wait for the dramatic snap.

Strings lose elasticity with use, even when they look fine. If your racquet feels harder to control, less comfortable, or simply different from last month, it may be time for a fresh set. How often depends on how much you play, so bring it in and we can talk it through.

02 / Tension

There isn’t one perfect number.

Lower tension often gives you more comfort and depth; higher tension can feel firmer and more controlled. Your stroke, arm, string, racquet, and sport all play a part. Start with a comfortable baseline, then adjust one thing at a time.

03 / Gear care

Let your equipment dry out.

After tennis, pickleball, padel, squash, or racquetball, give your racquet or paddle a quick wipe and let it air out before it goes back in the bag. Keep gear out of a hot car when you can, and replace worn grips before they start changing your swing.

04 / Warm-up

Build into the first ball.

Begin with easy movement, soft contact, and relaxed swings. Add pace and range gradually. A few calm minutes at the start can help your body, timing, and equipment settle into the session.
